Based on research on hierarchical structure and development of bone callus and fetal bone, we have synthesized nano-hydroxyapatite/collagen (nHAC) composites for bone tissue engineering scaffolds through mineralization collagen matrix. The hierarchical structure of the nHAC is similar to that of natural bone. After animal tests of tissue response to the nHAC composites implants, the nHAC composites had been successful in clinic trials for more than hundred patents of bone defects.
